"I love editing. I think I like it more than any other phase of film making. If I wanted to be frivolous, I might say that everything that precedes editing is merely a way of producing film to edit."
-Stanley Kubrick, American Film Director

Car Chase Edit Challenge:
Using media from Artgrid, I selected cohesive shots from car chase footage, found two great music tracks, and blended sfx in unique ways to create two different scenes.
One is the familiar pursuit between the police and criminal, and the other presents a story of love and playful excitement as the characters weave in and out in a subtle dance together.

Creative choice led me to introduce our characters in the beginning to push the idea that what we see next is a dream, instead of beginning the scene being chased, and then awaking startled and proceeding into the kitchen. The axe murderer is heard in a gruff voice throughout the dream saying "you need this more than I do" referring to her impending doom. Then, back in the kitchen, just as we believe our victim is safe, the other character hands over a mug and says, "here... you need this more than I do!"

The footage provided created a challenge when pulling together a cohesive car chase scene because our subject car could sometimes be found driving slower than the neighboring cars, and the stability of the footage could not be ignored when selecting shots. In a positive light, there was use of a crane, and some dramatic low angle shots on busy city streets.
I made the decision to introduce our character before building the chase. The narration was pulled from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. All other music and sfx were added in post.

Editing Challenge:
Ventura Hot Glass
The provided footage contained beautiful shots showing the process of blowing glass. The shop owner, Suzi Perret, had wonderful things to say about her love of glass blowing, and I believe the way her dialogue was edited by me, a complete story unfolded in the piece.
The music was edited by me to remain subdued, and all sfx were added in post.
